Blurb- Since childhood, Rosie and Alex have stuck by each other through thick and thin/ But suddenly, they’re separated, when Alex and his family move from Dublin to America. Their magical connection remains but can their friendship survive the years and miles?
Misunderstandings, circumstances and sheer bad luck have kept them apart- until now. But will they gamble everything – including their friendship – on true love? And what twists and turns does fate have in store for them this time?
Thoughts- I usually give good ratings and maybe that’s because I don’t read books I don’t like, or I’m just generous? Either way, this is my favourite book of all time. It was my favourite as a kid and it’s my favourite to this day. It’s written by Cecilia Ahern who has written Ps. I Love You, If You Could See Me Now, A Place Called Here and many other fantastic books that should be read if you see them about.
So, Where Rainbows End is a fantastic book that has been turned into a film titled Love, Rosie that was released in 2014 starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin. I hate to be one of those people that say the book was better, but in this case, it definitely was. The book is styled through chat logs, notes, letters and many other forms of communication rather than a traditional narrative. It ranges from the main characters Rosie and Alex were just children aged six years old well into older ages. My first experience with the letter and email style books was with this book and it made me fall in love with it. Which later leads to me loving books such as Undiscovered Gyrl and Another Gyrl by Allison Burnett. It is well written, there is a clear contrast between the characters’ chapters and their way of wording things.
You’re led on the, come to be, cliche story of to be or not to be, but it feels fresh and new with this approach. We see through the years the characters fall in and out of each other’s lives, we see the funny sides of their friendship and the bad sides, we see the good sides, the bad sides and extra bad sides of friendship and family.
For Fans Of- PS I Love You, Me Before You, If I Stay.
